SOME IDEAS TO MAINTAIN HEALTH AND WELL BEING IN ISOLATION
April 2020, during the covid-19 Pandemic. (inspired by a recent Facebook post)
1. Get up, get showered and get dressed. Brush your teeth and hair, put on some make up and some earrings (this also applies to men if you so desire!) Why not? Otherwise you could find yourself in your pyjamas at 4 pm, still glued to U-Tube.
2. Make your bed. It’s a good start for being organised! You’ve already accomplished something!
3. Take your supplements or medication and drink lots of water.
4. Eat healthy food, include lots of fruit and veggies and experiment with cooking from scratch.
5. Clean one thing or one space. It doesn’t have to be big. Sweep the floor, wash the dishes, do some laundry, clear out one drawer, polish the mirrors, clean the toilet, vacuum, or put out the garbage. You’ll feel good!
6. Love and look after something growing or something living. (A human, an animal, a pot plant or a garden - even a sourdough starter!)
7. Be mindfully present to:
· A sound or a song – play your favourite song or find some new music
· A sensory feeling – Hmmmm? Use your imagination …. this could be fun!
· Something you see – the sky, a tree, a bird, a flower, the sea, a human being
· A spiritual practice – prayer, meditation, singing, chanting, knitting, baking, or yoga
8. Reach out to someone outside your home. Make a difference with a phone call, write a letter (how long since you did that?) or drop a card/note or a small gift into a letter box – even a stranger’s - when you are out walking.
9. Do one thing to get your heart rate up. Walk, yoga, skip, run, push ups, dance, make love!
10. Do one thing you’ll be glad you did later. Be creative, what have you ‘not had time to do’ for years?
11. Do one thing just because you wanted to. Indulge yourself!
12. Have at least one good laugh! There are endless opportunities for this!
